Looking for a high fibre snack? Crispbread is your new best friend. Discover your favourite way to enjoy it with these delicious variations.

If you haven’t heard of crispbread, it’s a crispy whole grain traditional Swedish bread that is made from rye flour. Similar to regular bread, it’s versatile and can be topped with almost anything!
As a fibre-loving dietitian, crispbread is one of my pantry staples. It’s shelf stable and such a simple way to fibre boost my meals and snacks. In my mind, it’s the perfect addition to supporting healthy eating, and a healthy life.
So keep reading so I can convince you to add it to your list of pantry staples too!
Why you will love crispbread
Great source of fibre – Crispbread is made from whole grains which provide its amazing fibre content. Each slice contains about 2.5 grams of fibre… can’t complain about that!
Stays fresh – Unlike bread, crispbread stays fresh for much much longer than a week. That’s one of the reasons why it’s one of my pantry staples.
Filling – Each slice has about 1.5 grams of protein per slice which coupled with fibre, makes for a healthy and filling snack.
Versatile – There’s so much you can do with crispbread. Enjoy it with any of the topping variations mentioned in this post, crush it over top of soups and salads, enjoy them plain, alongside your dip of choice (cowboy caviar, buffalo chicken dip, to name a few), you name it!
What does crispbread taste like?
Crispbread is made from wholemeal rye flour, and often has seeds added to it. This blend gives it its grainy, nutty flavour. It also has a crispy texture, giving it an enjoyable tasty crunch.

Savoury crispbread toppings
Avocado, cottage cheese, everything bagel seasoning
This is the perfect combination for the days where you have no idea what to pack for lunch. Mash some avocado on a few slices of crispbread, top with cottage cheese, a sprinkle of everything bagel seasoning, and you have a simple yet filling lunch!
Pesto, fresh mozzarella, tomato
This is one of my favourite crispbread topping combinations. Top your crispbread with one to two slices of fresh mozzarella, pesto, and some fresh tomato slices. Yum!
Turkey & cheese
Fold up a turkey cold cut and layer with some sliced cheddar cheese on top of your crispbread. This one is so simple yet satisfying!
Cream cheese, smoked salmon, capers, dill
Great on a bagel, even better on crispbread! Simply spread some cream cheese onto your crispbread, top with a slice of smoked salmon, some capers, and fresh dill if you have it.
Avocado, scrambled eggs, red pepper flakes
This one takes a bit of extra prep to cook the eggs but turns out so delish! Mash some avocado onto the crispbread, top with some scrambled eggs, and season with salt and red pepper flakes. If you own chili crunch, that works great here as well!

Cottage cheese, tomato, basil, za’atar
Who doesn’t love a za’atar moment? Make this while tomatoes and fresh basil are still in season, I wouldn’t want you to miss out! Spread some cottage cheese on top of the crispbread, then layer with sliced tomato, basil, and a sprinkle of za’atar.
Hummus, tomato, cucumber, dill
Fibre-rich snacks don’t get much easier than this! I love this combo as a quick and simple snack. Spread some hummus on top of your crispbread, top with sliced tomatoes, cucumbers and some fresh dill.
Sweet crispbread toppings
Peanut butter, yogurt, bananas, chopped peanuts
If you love a peanut butter and banana sandwich, you will love this combo! Spread some vanilla greek yogurt on top of a slice, drizzle with melted peanut butter, then top with sliced bananas and some chopped peanuts.
Nutella yogurt, strawberries, shaved chocolate
This is my favourite sweet topping! To make it, simply combine ½ teaspoon of nutella with ¼ cup of plain greek yogurt and mix together. Spread the Nutella yogurt on top of a crispbread, top with some sliced strawberries and shaved chocolate, and enjoy!

Nutella yogurt, berries, hemp hearts
Combine a ½ teaspoon of nutella with ¼ cup of plain greek yogurt, and mix together. Spread the nutella yogurt on top of a crispbread, then top with some fresh berries and hemp hearts.
Ricotta figs prosciutto honey
If you have all the ingredients on hand to make this variation, I promise you won’t be disappointed. Spread ricotta on top of your crispbread along with some sliced figs, folded prosciutto and a drizzle of honey!
Peanut butter banana hemp
Simply spread peanut butter onto a slice, and top with some sliced bananas and hemp hearts! This makes for a satisfying simple snack you can have at your fingertips.
Where to find crispbread?
You can find crispbread in your local Canadian grocery store!
Is crispbread better for you than bread?
Crispbread is just as good for you as regular whole grain bread! Both are rich in fibre, and great healthy choices.
