- Rich in Nutrients: Fibre, vitamins, and antioxidants are some of the amazing nutrients guacamole has to offer.
- Wholesome Alternative: Guacamole is a healthier choice compared to other dips and spreads that may be high in sodium and/or saturated fat.
Ingredients
Avocado – the spotlight ingredient that makes guacamole both creamy and refreshing. Make sure your avocados are soft.
Tomato – I love using vine-ripened tomatoes—they’re naturally sweeter and more flavourful.
Garlic – Adds just the right amount of zing.

Red onion – Brings a mild sharpness and crunch.
Lime juice – Adds a pop of freshness and helps keep the guac from turning brown.
Cilantro (optional) – Love it or leave it—it’s entirely up to you! This guac tastes amazing with or without it.
How to make 5 ingredient guacamole
Chop. Dice your tomato, finely chop the onion and cilantro (if using), and mince the garlic.
Mash. Cut the avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a medium-sized bowl. Using a fork, gently mash the avocados until it reaches your desired texture.
Mix. Add the chopped ingredients, lime juice, salt, and pepper to the bowl. Mix everything until it’s well combined and creamy.
Serve. Serve your guacamole chilled with chips, crackers, or crisp bread—or as a side to your favorite Mexican-inspired dishes.

Frequently asked questions
How long does guacamole last?
It’s best enjoyed fresh but if stored in an air-tight container in the fridge it will be good for up to two days.
How can I tell if my avocados are ripe?
Give it a gentle squeeze. A ripe avocado will feel slightly soft but not mushy. If the stem at the top comes off easily and reveals green underneath, it’s good to go!
Why did my guacamole turn brown?
Guacamole turns brown when exposed to air due to oxidation. If it does brown slightly, just scrape off the top layer—it’s still safe to eat! To prevent your guacamole from turning brown, cover it tightly with plastic wrap so that it’s touching the surface of the guac.
What if I don’t have red onion?
No problem! You can substitute the red onion with finely chopped sweet onion or yellow onion. Shallots also work for a milder flavour.
Can I make this spicy?
Definitely! For a spicy twist, add 1-2 teaspoons of finely chopped jalapeños.
